This position offers hands-on exposure to enterprise networking, firewall governance, cybersecurity operations, change management, and IT service delivery within a large statewide network environment. The intern will assist with firewall rules analysis, tracking firewall requests, preparing committee materials, documenting decisions, maintaining records, and supporting process real-world technical experience in a controlled and low-risk environment while supporting operational efficiency and workforce development. Assist with tracking and coordinating firewall rule requests through the review and approval process. Review requests for completeness, maintain status records, and document committee decisions and follow-up actions. Support weekly Firewall Rule Committee meetings and communicate with requesters regarding needed information or approvals. Gain hands‑on exposure to enterprise firewall operations, network security concepts, and change management processes. Review firewall rules and configurations under supervision using authorized read‑only access. Shadow network and security engineers and participate in training related to networking and cybersecurity operations. Prepare meeting materials, maintain tracking logs, and document action items and decisions. Assist with development and maintenance of Firewall Rule Committee procedures, documentation, and reference materials. Generate status reports, maintain records, and support process improvement initiatives. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Must be a student in high school or other educational institution or accepted into a college, university or educational institution. Other Conditions: Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include a trade/vocational school. Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools.
