We are seeking a dependable and community-focused Building Custodian to help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position plays an important role in the daily operation of the school by ensuring facilities and grounds are properly maintained, sanitary, and ready to support student learning and school activities. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, works independently, and is committed to supporting the educational mission of the school through high-quality custodial and facility care.

PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for cleaning the Education in the Unorganized Territory school on a daily basis in order to provide a safe and healthy environment for staff and students attending the school.

REPRESENTATIVE TASKS:

This position is responsible for maintaining assigned areas of the school and surrounding grounds in a clean, safe, sanitary, and orderly condition to support daily school operations and provide a healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities include cleaning classrooms, bathrooms, hallways, offices, and common areas; operating custodial equipment; maintaining supplies and materials; and performing routine maintenance and minor repairs throughout the facility. The position also supports outdoor maintenance activities such as snow removal, lawn care, sidewalk upkeep, and maintaining safe exterior conditions. Additional duties may include supporting energy conservation efforts, monitoring facility conditions, and assisting with minor carpentry and maintenance work as needed to maintain the overall functionality and appearance of the school.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Knowledge of standards for cleanliness of grounds, buildings, and equipment Knowledge of school building codes and laws. Knowledge of the precautions necessary to safeguard personnel, property, and equipment Knowledge of the maintenance and minor repair of plumbing, heating, and electrical systems and fixtures_ Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in janitorial work_ Ability to climb to the height of school roof/ceiling_ Ability to use and/or operate cleaning equipment associated with high volume traffic facilities Ability to maintain standards for cleaning building and grounds. Ability to communicate and work in a positive manner with staff and pupils. Ability to life independently objects weighing up to 70 pounds. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks in the care, cleaning, and maintenance of buildings and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience and training which demonstrates a basic knowledge of building and grounds maintenance and repair.
